R.A.O was founded by Raymond Alan Oliver in 1987. Raymond learned his trade working for his father in law at a well renowned fish company for many years before making the brave decision to go it alone. R.A.O Fish wholesaler's opened their doors for business on a fresh, autumn morning in 1962.
The company started its life working from a wooden stall in and around London as a fish supplier, some years later moving into a single area Stratford Market, then later renting space in a retail fish shop in Edgware when bigger premises were required.
Raymond's son Lee, worked for his father at R.A.O on weekends and in school holidays, and as the time came for Lee to start his own career, joining the family business was the natural choice. In 1995, Michael joined as partner and brought with him years of experience as a Fish Merchant, expanding the company further.
Once the company had established itself, Raymond, Lee and Michael decided to lease a ready to go self contained unit in the famous Billingsgate Fish Market where they continued to forge their excellent reputation, and haven’t looked back since.
Unfortunately in 2014 Raymond has had to retire due to ill health. As a much loved friend, father and colleague he is sadly missed, but certainly not forgotten.
